Chandragiri Hills and Ropeway: A Thrilling Experience
Located in the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, Chandragiri Hills is a highly popular destination for tourists. Situated at an altitude of 2,551 meters above sea level, this spot is famous for its scenic natural beauty and its modern ropeway system.
From the top of Chandragiri Hills, you can witness the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas. Especially the views of Mount Everest and the Annapurna range will mesmerize any traveler. The lush green forests surrounding the hills and the serene environment offer a peaceful escape.
Chandragiri Ropeway
One of the main attractions of Chandragiri Hills is the ropeway. It is one of the most modern and longest ropeway systems in Nepal. Within just 10–15 minutes of an exciting ride, you’ll reach the top of the hill. There is also a restaurant at the summit.

How to Reach Chandragiri Hills?
Chandragiri Hills is about 14 kilometers from Kathmandu city. You can reach the Chandragiri Ropeway Station by car or motorbike. From there, take the ropeway to reach the summit.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Chandragiri is from October to March, when the weather is clear and Himalayan views are at their best.
It’s better to avoid the monsoon season as ropeway rides may be risky due to rain.
Tips:
Start your journey early in the morning when the weather is clear.
Book your ropeway tickets in advance, especially on holidays.
Wear warm clothes as the weather can be cold at the top.
For Nepali Citizens: 825 NPR and For SAARC Country Citizens: 1,320 NPR
Ropeway Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Friday & Saturday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Note: The ropeway remains closed daily from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
